mac mkt “2.0”

Mac Market will be temporarily closed from April 16th through May 10th for remodeling.

Mac Market began as a rousing speech to my husband, Todd, in the tiny quarters of our Airstream home one rainy day camped at Cape Lookout. We had just toured the old “shoe grease” warehouse that now houses Mac Market and I was feeling blindly confident about renovating and creating a business with the property. I remember saying something to the effect of “do we wanna grab life by the horns? Or do we wanna be boring?!” Not ones to back down from challenge and/or adventure, we purchased what was then a 40,000 sqft building back in late 2017. And we haven’t been bored, or boring, since.

Fast forward to now—many (many) learnings and iterations later—our wonderful team operates a space that serves and supports the magic of this community with amazing food, drink, shopping, and occasions to gather together. That was the mission from the beginning.

Exactly how that’s been executed hasn’t been as straightforward. I took a trip down memory lane by making a list of everything I can remember happening at Mac Market since opening in 2019. The list is published below: high five to anyone who can claim attendance at 10 or more happenings.

Reflecting on this list, it shows our chops for change and improvement. In a way, Mac Market has been an experiment; maybe most small businesses are to start. But now, 3.5 years in (plus 20 for the pandemic), we are defining who we are and what we do, which we never could have done without doing what we did. It’s a classic life lesson.

So with our acquired knowledge, and even some of that early blind confidence, we’ve found ourselves ready to embark on one more iteration we’re calling “Mac Market 2.0.” Over the course of the next six-ish weeks, our friends Honey Pie Pizza, Wellspent Market, and Chef Kari’s new restaurant called Hayward, will all be moving in to share the space and bring you even more reasons to call Mac Market your home away from home.

In addition to new small businesses moving in, we’ll be consolidating our Café and Bar spaces into one so you can get your coffee, Aperol spritz, cake, and even a breakfast sandwich all in one European place. For your gatherings, we are improving our private event spaces and of course, will continue hosting many public events that celebrate food, drink, community, diversity, and wellness. And ever-devoted to a more sustainable lifestyle, Sustainable Rituals will continue its mission by remaining an outstanding Mac Market tenant.

You may have noticed a little construction happening around the building already. This is all in preparation for a 3-week closure starting April 16th and planned reopening on Tuesday, May 9th. Sustainable Rituals will remain open during construction Tues-Sat from 9am-3pm and remember, you can always shop the online site 24/7 here. Additionally, the shop will be a temporary home to the Even Pull Farm coolers so you don’t miss out on your spring veggies.

One last thing, when Mac Market reopens, we will be extending hours to Tuesday-Sunday from 8am-9pm for the summer/fall months!

We are downright giddy for this evolution of Mac Market. Making it here has been a helluva ride that I wouldn’t want to do anywhere else but in this amazing valley with this special community. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting a place that started as a speech and has grown into a dream. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy creating it.

If you would like to further support us during the temporary closure, consider purchasing and designing a Founders Brick that will forever be displayed on the patio wall outside Mac Market. Stay tuned for more updates about Mac Market 2.0 and in the meantime, come crush all the food, drink and good vibes before we shut down for three weeks!
